Rooted into the hillside amongst the native manuka, overlooking the Bay of Islands, the breathtaking location for this new build demanded a similarly awe-inspiring finish.

Timber and stone were utilised throughout the dwelling, honouring the natural surroundings and creating a sense of flow from outside to in. A simple mono pitch aluminium roof allows the impressive stonework, vertical timber cladding and hardwood decking to shine, as the real stars of the show.

Tying together these very different materials in a harmonious way is certainly challenging, so the extensive experience of our team in dealing with these specialist products was invaluable. A steep and tricky section to work with, the completed build is nonetheless a dream come true for the owners, and a home that blends perfectly with its spectacular surroundings.
